A phrase used on a daily basis in Japan, おつかれさま (Otsukaresama) is composed of:

お (A polite form prefix)
つかれ (tiredness)
さま (an honorific suffix)

And it can range in casual to formal
Casual → おつかれ → おつかれさま → おつかれさまです→ Formal
with other ways such as おつ、おつかれさん、おつかれです also used at times

USAGE:
おつかれさま is more or less translated as “Good work”, “You must be tired”, or just as a greeting acknowledging an individual or group for their efforts and hard work. It is most often used at the end of work or a work day, and to friends after hearing their struggles or mishaps.
